Well, the day is finally here. A 5:15am Uber to the airport. A 9am flight. 17 hours later we will get our first glimpse of Singapore. There may be a little bit of poetic license in that last statement. Yes, we are flying into Singapore. Yes, we are sleeping in Singapore. But our 19 hour layover will be completely contained within the Changi airport.
I can hear Chloe now... "Papa!!! Go see Singapore!"
But don't you fret because we'll be spending 19 hours in...
Abby: "Papa, are you bragging again?"
Yeah, you're right Abby. I shouldn't do that. I think there's a lesson in there for you. Something you can take with you as you grow up. There's a difference between being entertaining and being a showoff.
It's with forethought that we're spending all that time at the airport. They have a hotel (that is also labeled as the best airport hotel in the world). It will give us a chance to get a good night's sleep and put a dimmer on the jet lag.
And now, the evening news...
It's been interesting watching the news for the last few weeks. We've been paying attention to the news in Asia. Guess, there might be a chance for a sprinkle or two.
Do we know how to throw a party, or what?
We knew that we were beginning our journey at the tail end of monsoon season. We were, of course, hoping for blue skies and 72 degrees. Or for those that don't live in these countries, 22 degrees.
What's On The Itinerary?
Y'all have to keep in mind that we're 17 hours ahead of you. When I talk about Saturday morning, it will still be Friday back home.
Saturday morning we will catch the short 1-hour flight to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Side note about the flights in Asia, they serve a meal on all flights. Even the 1-hour ones! We'll spend a week in KL and we think it's the perfect place to kick off our adventure.
Kuala Lumpur has been described as that "overzealous friend who insists on showing you every single part of their life in one whirlwind tour -- a dazzling blend of cultures, cuisines, and skyscrapers that seem to compete for your attention." It's going to be warm and rainy there.
Abby, it's going to be like when Papa wraps around you with a warm, sweaty hug. And, we know how much you love that.
We'll take our time seeing the sights, hearing the sounds and smelling the smells of Kuala Lumpur. And just when we think we've seen it all, maybe we'll stumble upon a hidden jazz club where the music is smoother than an iced latte.
This trip, we've committed to trying new things and experiences. Hell, at our age... why not?
As for blog postings, I would expect at least one per week. Maybe more frequent depending on how awestruck we are. Thank you so much for sharing this time with us. I'm hoping you can feel a little bit of what it's like in all these countries.
Chloe, Abby and JJ -- Do good in school. It will mean a lot to you when you're older.
